Dalton back on track with last-lap pass in Reliable Chevrolet USRA B-Mod win

Defending USRA Springfield Raceway B Modified Champion Jackie Dalton of Carthage used a last lap pass over leader Aaron Scroggins to capture his 5th feature win At the "Quick-Quarter" of The Multi-grooved Springfield Raceway Saturday Night.

Dalton, who started the feature from the 7th starting spot in the 20 lap Reliable Chevrolet B Modified feature stayed patient during the early part of the feature as Levi Phillips set the pace for the opening 3 laps before Scroggins took charge with 3 wide action behind the leader. Following alap 3 caution which caught last weeks winner Danny Martin up and had to go to the back of the field on the restart. When the green dropped again, Scroggins had to fend back several drivers for the top spot which included Micheal Maggard, Ricky Watkins, Dalton, early leader Phillips and Sam Petty along with Steton Johnson.

A long green run saw Scroggins keeping up on the wheel of the top groove. On lap 12 Dalton went to the lead to only see Scroggins nip him back at the line the following on lap 13 to take command back. The following lap rookie Cayden Stayce lost the motor in his car leaving oil in turns 3&4 as Scroggins hit the slick stuff right as the caution flew.

Track officials placed Scroggins back in front as Dalton picked the top lane for the restart as a few contenders dropped out of action. On the restart, Dalton who likes to rim ride the top of the Speedway found some speed in the middle and started a move to the lead when Johnson's strong run ended on lap 18 as he came to a halt on the backstretch bringing out the last yellow of the feature.

For the restart, Dalton again picked the top side as Watkins, Petty, Phillips, and Maggard were in the hunt and preparing for the final restart. Scroggins fired strong as Dalton made a 3 wide slide to find grip as it was anyone's feature as this time. The white flew as the pack bunched up even more as Scroggins was holding that top groove as Dalton pulled on the leaders back bumper setting-up a move. Heading into turn 3, the duo was nose to tail as Petty was on the move and heading for more. Out of turn 4, Dalton split the pack and went to the middle lane and just nipped Scroggins for the win as Petty, Maggard and Levi Phillips were bunched tight following the top duo

Dalton with his Garrison Performance/Doug's Pro Lube/Hoffman Race Cars/GMPP Crate 602 had to work hard after the early qualifying heat after finishing 2nd and a 10 car invert placed him back in the pack . The car was trailing a small amount of smoke during the heat race and the team found the problem and fixed it.

"As always the track was great for everyone. I saw Levi on the pole and also knew Maggard was going to be tough in his new B Mod getting ready for some racing when his Late Model schedule allows. Weekly it is tough and Scroggins makes you run a faster pace than you might want to. After 2 weeks of being the runner-up it feels good to get back in the winners circle tonight. The car is good and running weekly here really makes you pick-up your game no matter what the car count is.
