Keeter In Right Place At Wrong Time For Pearish-Takes Win Number 2 At Quick-Quarter In A-Mods

25 07 2010
Springfield,Mo.-Current Budweiser A-Mod point leader Mitch Keeter found himself in the right place at the right time for him,but not for Bobby Pearish as Keeter took over the lead on lap 16 and held on to capture his second feature win of the season as the Quick-Quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway despite severe rain stroms moving in the area.
The filed took the green with Pearish earning the lead at the drop of the feature over Denny DeMasters Jr while Jody Tillman followed through.Pearish started to check out from the field whileKeeter, opening night winner Erik Maggard, and Jerry Lankton were battling hard for third place. While Pearish was smooth through the middle of the turns,Tillman hooked-up on the high-side and started his march to the front. With a long green flag run and action all over the track,Pearish was pulling away while Keeter made the low pass move around Tillman on lap 8 to grab second place with Tillman,DeMasters,Maggard and 4 time track champion Jackie Dalton batling.Dalton who had started 11th on the field was moving both high and low.
As the leaders started going through lapped traffic on lap 10,Pearish’s lead started getting smaller as Keeter was on the march forward while Tillman,Maggard,DeMastera nad Dalton along with Jerry Lankton were having a great race.Pearish kept a solid pace through the center of the track as Keeter closed-up to half a straight away lead.On lap 16,while going through traffic, a car spun in turn 3 and went down right in front of the leader Pearish collecting him and ending his run for the victory.Keeter took over the top spot after the only caution of the feature  while Jody Tillman choose the top groove on the double-file restart and Maggard running third move to the low groove.Keeter got the jump on the start and moved to the top groove as Tillman and Maggard were side by side with Dalton and Veteran Terry Kirk swapping spots. On lap 19,Maggard moved around Tillman on the low side but Tillman came back on the top groove in the race for second place.Keeter took the victory and added to his point lead over dalton as Maggard recorded a narrow runner-up spot with Tillman,Dalton and Terry Kirk. The second 5 were Jerry Lankton,Lady driver Tammy Mitchell,Brian Green who started 15 after borrowing Kyle Slagle’s car,Tim simon and Danny DeMasters Jr all on the lead lap.
Reliable Chevrolet GM Performance SportMod Competition saw Springfield’s Wes Long and Bobby Maggard Jr. occupy the front row with Long leading the opening lap with point leader Wayne Graybeal,Eric Tinderholt and early season point leader Sean Williams following.Long pulled away running through the center of the track while Williams found the very top lane to run quickly.Maggard,Graybeal and JC Morton were swapping spots as Tinderholt started to slow off the pace.Maggard Jr pulled to the pits on lap 8 ending his night as Sean Williams had made the top groove move around Long to grab the lead while morton and Graybeal battled side by side. The first caution waved on lap 10 for Blake Ellis along with previous winner john Yeoman Jr and Gary Rodocker as they spun in turn 2.On the restart,Williams pulled away as Crate Motor driver Billy Dalton took advantage of his high lane spot and rocketed to move into fourth place as morton gave chase along with Graybeal. With Williams starting to check out,Long seemed secure for the runner-up spot while a great race for third involving Morton,Dalton,Mike Hailman and Larry tindle as Graybeal’s car seemed to not turn through the corners.Williams rode the top groove to victory ending his month long bad luck drought as Long,Dalton,Morton and Mike Hailman completed the top 5 with Graybeal,Gary Rodocker,Yeoman Jr,Tindle and Nathan Cottrell completing the top 10.Dalton took home and extra $150 for being the top crate Motor finisher while Morton grabbed an extra $100 and Tindle $50.
The Wheeler Metals StreetStocks were a little short of cars, but not of racing action tonight as the invert place heat race winner Bob Maggard Sr and point leader Jack Hamer in the final row at the start.Matt Keeth grabbed the opening lead over Kourtney Stevens  while Randy High followed closely and took over the lead on lap 2 with Hamer following. With Randy High riding the middle groove,Veteran Bobby Maggard sr and Hamer were side by side and closing quickly.Maggard made a nice move in turn 2 on lap 7 to grab the lead while High came right back along with hamer.Anrew Neil started closing in quickly while these 3 battle.Maggard took back the lead on lap 9 and held off both High and Hamer to secure his first win of the season in the class.High,Hamer,Neil,Keeth and Stevens completed the field.
The Newly formed MidWest Modz saw 11 cars take the green flag with Rich Reynolds and Tyler Chainey on the front row and go door to door.Contact involving several cars sent Chainey spinning along with JC Newell and Rusty Adams and brought out the yellow. On the restart,Reynolds fell by the wayside as Bobby Gough took the opening lead as point leader Kaleb Copher came charging from the back of the field to grab second place with Reynolds and Trever Drake following closely.Copher tried several attempts to get the lead from Gough but Gough held off the challanges.Drake and Gary Krebs followed closely along with Lamar Newman but Drake’s night ended with problems. On lap 5 of the 15 lap event,Copher finally made the pass stick on the highside of Gough to take the lead as Krebs stayed close as Shawn Hatcher and Newman battled. In the closing laps,Copher pulled away to grab the victory with Gough,Krebs,Newman and points runner-up JC Newell rounding out the top 5.Post race tech found problems with Krebs and Newman changing the top 5 to Copher,Gough,Newell,Hatcher and Rusty Adams.
The LegendCars again provided three-wide race as Rodney Baird and Rob Watson brought the field to the Green with Watson taking the early lead as Dave Bauer and Chuck Comer followed. With Watson setting a quick pace, point leader Justin Comer made a move into the top 3 and began is charge to the front as Park Jones,Paul Horton,Baird and a fast moving Tyler Horton were swapping back and forth.A late race caution closed-up the field even more as Justin comer was able to get around Watson on lap 12 and hold off repeated challanges by Bauer to secure the win followed by Tyler Horton, early leader Watson, and Park Jones.10 of the 13 starters completed all 20 laps and only previous winner Dave Comer did not start the feature.
Chris Woodruff took the opening lead in the PureStock class and never looked back in grabbing his first win of the season over Tyler Ruggles and Joey blackstone

4 07 2010
Springfield,Mo.-Despite an early afternoon rain shower, holiday action went on at the Quick-Quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway as the racing action was fast, furious and outstanding as the Budweiser A-Mods were battling for a $1,000 to win payday.
A-Mod feature action saw defending track champion Jackie Dalton of Carthage set on the pole with Mitch Keeter flanked on his outside. At the drop of the green,Dalton jumped to the early lead with Keeter following only to see the yellow wave as Rocky Berliew,Brian Green,Bobby Pearish and Jerry Lankton got together causing a restart. On the restart,Dalton again jumped to the lead with Keeter close behind while Jesse Stovall moved to the high groove along with Jody Tillman and Turkey Classic winner Steve Martin.
With Dalton setting a quick pace on the racy wide track,Stovall pulled even with Keeter as they ran side by side.Dalton was pulling away until lap 5 when the car came to a slow halt while leading. This pit Stovall in the lead as Keeter was going to make the low groove work as Tillman,Martin and a fast moving Brian Green. With Stovall pulling away on the top side,Keeter started to close-up during the green run.Steve Martin went by the wayside on lap 14 ending his strong run.On lap 20,Ketter was gaining on Stovall as Stovall was working lapped traffic while Tillman,Green and a fast moving Rocky Breliew were battling as two wide side by side racing was throughout the pack.On lap 22,Stovall’s lead was getting smaller, but then Stovall cleared traffic and went on to grab the $1,000 to win points race with Keeter,Tillman,Green and Breliew completing the top 5.Point leader Erik Maggard fell out early after having issues with the water pump while leading his qualifying heat earlier in the evening changing the current standings.
SportMod action saw another new winner as Eric Tinderholt took the lead on lap 3 from early pacesetter Gary Rodocker and withstood a late race challange from veteran Wayne Graybeal to take his first win of the season.Graybeal showed patience after starting the feature in row 4 to position himself to challange for the point lead as a 4 car collison involving point leader Sean Williams,Bobby Maggard Jr,Roy Maynard and Brad Moad took Williams out of action.Following the lead duo and the top GM Crate Motor finisher was JC Morton who had just switched to the Reliable Chevrolet 602 GM Crate Motor.Morton started 13th while 4th place finisher Wes Long came from his 15th starting spot with early leader Rodocker rounded out the top 5.
The LegendCar feature saw three and sometimes four wide racing as point leader Justin Comer shot from the 5th starting spot with Rob Watson hot on his heels along with Dave Bauer,Dave Comer,Park Jones and Chuck Comer all swapping the spots. While Justin Comer would all 20 laps,it wasn’t easy as Dave Comer really applied pressure the final 2 laps with Justin Comer just barely hanging on for the win.Following the winner to the line was Dave Comer,Dave Bauer,Rob Watson and a fast movingChuck Comer.
Defending StreetStock champoin Robert High grabbed the lead on the opening lap and never looked back in grabbing the feature win leaving the field to battle for the runner-up spot.Veteran Bob Maggard Sr and Randy High really put on a classic battle for the second place spot before Maggard hung on to secure the spot with Randy High, point leader Jack Hamer and Jesse Barton rounding out the top 5.
The MidWest Modz feature provided lots of excitement and action as Bobby Gough to the opening lead with Lamar Neuman following closely. With Gough setting a quick pace the field was 2 and 3 wide as point leader Kaleb Copher,Jeremy Manes, and JC Newell were battling. With Gough still in front,Trever Drake and Neuman battled for second as 3 wide action followed behind. On lap 7,Neuman and Drake made contact with Neuman spinning. This bunched the field up as Manes now challanged the leader Gough as Copher started his charge. On lap 12,Copher took over the top spot as Manes was applying pressure to the new leader, but Copher withstood the pressure to grab the win with Manes, early leader Gough,Drake and Newell completing the top 5.
Matt Thulin grabbed the opening lead and never looked back in capturing the PureStock feature over Doug Testerman,Chris Woodruff and Terry Coussins.

Winged SprintCars To Return To SpringfieldRaceway July 31

27 06 2010

Stovall Nets Late Race Victory In Budweiser A-Mods At Springfield

13 06 2010
Springfield,Mo.-Modified hotshoe Jesse “The Undertaker” Stovall brought his hot streak into the Quick-Quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway Sat night and narrowly pulled -out the feature win by grabbing the lead with only 2 laps to go in a 3 wide battle with Erk Maggard and Jody Tillman to put yet another notch in his winning streak in Missouri.
A 20 car field came to the Green flag on a picture perfect racing surface with defending track champion Jackie Dalton and Shawn Nations bringing the field to the start.Dalton jumped to the early lead with Nations,Tillman and Maggard following. With Dalton using the bottom of the racetrack and trying to stretch out his lead,Nations was staying close until lap 4 when Tillman started using the high groove. All eyes were on row 6 starters Mitch Keeter and Jesse Stovall as they were trying to thread threw traffic.Caution waved on lap 4 as Bobby Pearish and Jerry Lankton got together in turn 4 bunching up the field. On the restart,Dalton looking for his first Springfield win of the season was setting a fast pace on the low groove while Tillman was riding high as opening night winner Erik Maggard was in the mix along with Brian Green.
On lap 9,Tillman made the pass to overtake Dalton and control the lead as Dalton,Maggard,Nations,Green,Keeter and Stovall were battling. On lap 12,Maggard shot around Dalton to grab second place and set his sights on Tillman. On lap 13,Dalton pulled to the infield with problems ending his night while Tillman was setting a blistering pace,Maggard began to close-up the gap as Stovall moved into third place.A lap 15 caution for a single car spin bunched the field together and the fans knew it was show time.On the restart,Tillman stayed up top along with Maggard as Stovall was moving into the lower and middle grooves.2 wide action between Maggard and Stovall saw slide jobs between the duo as Tillman was still in control. On lap 17,Maggard and Stovall closed-up quickly on Tillman and Mitch Keeter was coming quickly also.On lap 18,Maggard went for a slide job on Stovall,Stovall came right back as Tillman slowed-up with the battle right in front of him.As the white was displayed,Stovall had the top spot with Tillman on his quarter panel.Magard took his car to the bottom and made a big run in the middle of turns 1&2 with Stovall holding a narrow lead and Tillman waiting for the opening.Heading to the checkered flag,Maggard was using the entire track to get around Stovall’s car,but Jesse took the checkered flag and his second win of the Springfield season with Maggard,Tillman,Keeter and a fast moving Jason Pursley in the top 5 with 16 of the 20 staters on the lead lap.
The Sportmod feature was all Colt Cheevers tonight as he started from the front row pole spot and never looked back in breaking his 2010 winless streak at the SpringfieldRaceway.
The feature saw a few early cautions but once it got going the action behind Cheevers was tight.Jon Yeoman Jr was in the runner-up spot during most of the feature, but during the long green run fell back as Jerry Lankton and Wayne Graybeal really thrilled the crowd with side by side racing along with 11th starter Bobby Maggard Jr.Up front Cheevers had checked out from the field as the “Green Machine” had pulled away by a full straightaway leaving Lankton and Graybeal to decide the runner-up spot with Lankton getting his best finish of the season by narrowly beatting Graybeal at the line with Maggard Jr. and Yeoman completing the top 5.Larry Tindle was the top 602 GM Crate motor finisher with his 6th place finish taking home and extra $200 in the Reliable Chevrolet Bonus program while Billy Dalton drove his crate motor from 20th to 9th adancing the most spots.Early race contenders Shawn Strong and JC Morton got together in turn 4 early ending their night with problems while point leader Sean Williams had to overcome a flat tire and restarting at the rear of the field.
The StreetStock feature was action packed for the entire 15 laps as Nick Whitehead grabbed the early lead with points runner-up Jack Hamer following.Whitehead was leading a tight pack including Erik Maggard,Dan Wood,The High Brothers and Rex Sawyer. On lap 3,Shawn Strong quietly moved around both Hamer and leader Whitehead to take the top spot.Back in the pack defending champion and current point lead Robert high who started 13th was moving into the battle as he closed-up on the lead Strong by lap 7.The first caution waved on lap 11 as Dan Wood’s good run saw him get sideways in turn 4 sending him to the back.On the restart Strong found High glued to his back bumper as the duo raced clean and tight while Rex Sawyer was moving up in the standings.High tried several low groove passes as Strong kept in the middle lane, but Strong grabbed his second win of the season with High,Sawyer,Whitehead and Hamer completing the top 5 as Wood recovered nicely to get in the lead pack. After race tech saw issues for High as he was dropped to the bottom of the standings with no pay or points for the evening moving everyone 1 spot forward.
The Legends again showed close racing action as they do every week. The 14 car field was brought to the green with Park Jones and point leader Justin Comer side by side as they took the Green.Jones would lead lap 1 with Comer taking the top spot for the next two circuits.Jones gathered the lead back on lap 4 with Comer at the stripe on lap 5.Dave Comer and Rob Watson were moving quickly to the front battle as Jones took back the lead the next lap while Justin Comer swapped on lap 7.On lap 9,third place Dave Comer fell out with problems leaving jones and Justin Comer to battle it out as Watson and a fast moving Paul Horton were battling.Jones and Justin comer went wheel to wheel on the high-banked quarter mile dirttrack.Comer tried several times to make a move on jones, but the “MotorMan” from Hatfield Engines wasn’t to be denied his first win of the season.Comer was a close second with Watson,Bill Cottrill and Dave Bauer in the top 5.
The newly formed MidWest modz class had an excellent car count and continues to grow.
Jeremy Manes took the early lead with Joplin’s Kelly gough following closely behind. With Manes setting a fast pace and Gough looking for his first win of the season,14 year old JC Newell moved into the third spot and stayed close to the leaders.A lap 3 caution waved for Tyler Chaney,Rusty Adams and Shane bias.On the restart Manes and Newell went wheel to wheel for the next 4 laps until Newell grabbed the top spot to take the lead over Manes while gough and a quiet moving David Lynch were battling.Newell and Manes continued the tight battle until the last lap when Manes spun in turn 4 heading to the checkered flag as Newell took his third win of the season with Lynch moving into second place followed by point leader Kaleb Copher who suffered sheet metal repair early in the feature,Gough and Manes.
Ty Jackson took the early lead from Josh Pinkley to grab the PureStock victory with TJ Thulin and Joey blackstone following.
